Achilles’ Regional Director for LATAM spoke with Daniel Bosque about the opportunities facing Argentine mining, the evolution of supplier management and the new challenges for supply chains at a global level.
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA, July 31, 2026 – Argentina is experiencing a period of significant opportunities for the development of its mining industry. The growth of new projects, the interest of international investors, and the need to strengthen supply chains are transforming the requirements for mining companies and suppliers.
In this context, Nicolás Avellaneda, Regional Director for LATAM at Achilles, was interviewed by Daniel Bosque, journalist and director of CLUBminero, to analyze the present and future of the mining sector, as well as the evolution of supplier and contractor management in the industry.
During the conversation, Nicolás addressed how mining supply chain management has changed in recent years and how companies are moving from traditional supplier registration and qualification processes toward more comprehensive models of due diligence, verification, risk analysis, and auditing.
The conversation also focused on a reality that is increasingly relevant for mining companies: suppliers must be prepared to meet more demanding standards before accessing new business opportunities. Certifications, financial standing, internal policies, labor compliance, and operational capabilities are among the elements that are now gaining greater importance in evaluation processes.
An opportunity for Argentine mining and suppliers
One of the main topics of the interview was the current moment Argentina is experiencing and the growth potential represented by the development of new mining projects. The opportunities for local suppliers and the role that companies from San Juan, Mendoza, and other mining regions can play in building supply chains capable of supporting the industry’s growth were particularly highlighted.
The conversation also explored how aggregated supply chain information can become a tool for identifying capability gaps, development opportunities, and sectors requiring greater strengthening, contributing not only to individual risk management but also to the development of a more competitive mining ecosystem.
From Argentina to the global stage
Geopolitical tensions, regulatory changes, tariffs, trade restrictions, and other disruptions are forcing companies to have greater visibility over their supply chains and to respond more quickly to changes in their environment.
In this scenario, technology and artificial intelligence are playing an increasingly important role in analyzing information, identifying risks, and facilitating decisions related to suppliers and procurement. For Achilles, this evolution reinforces the need to advance toward more continuous risk management, based on reliable and up-to-date information, that enables organizations to anticipate changes and strengthen the resilience of their supply chains.
Achilles and its commitment to mining
Argentine mining constitutes one of Achilles’ strategic growth pillars in Latin America. The company has decades of experience working with mining organizations and other critical sectors in supply chain risk and performance management.
As part of its growth strategy in Argentina, in April 2025 Achilles acquired Infocontrol, an organization based in San Juan with extensive experience and connections to the local mining industry. This acquisition enabled Achilles to strengthen its capabilities and knowledge of the region’s mining ecosystem.
The company continues working to connect buyers and suppliers, facilitate evaluation and qualification processes, and provide information that contributes to building more transparent, resilient supply chains prepared to support mining growth.
