“Our vision for Achilles Live is to create an event that brings both suppliers and buyers together, along with industry experts and the wider Achilles team. Sharing knowledge and insight into imperative, business critical issues such as the eradication of modern slavery and implications of Brexit affect buyers and suppliers in every industry. This, along with networking and identifying cross community business opportunities, is what Achilles live is all about” said Jay Katzen, Chief Executive Officer at Achilles.
Keynote speaker, Klára Skrivánková of Anti-Slavery International, opened the forum with talks on eradication of modern slavery from the supply chain. Klára said; “I was delighted to open Achilles Live 2017 and address the issues around modern slavery with delegates from the utilities, rail and construction sectors. It’s a fallacy that slavery happens in faraway places – it is our responsibility to acknowledge that it’s happening on our doorsteps, and then do something about it. I encourage businesses to work together and with civil society organisations to gain greater visibility, insight and understanding of the labour practises within own operations, their suppliers and contractors.”
Delegates from all over the UK, and beyond heard from other key speakers from across the multiple industries, such as Skanska UK, Mace Group, EY UKI Advisory and Rail Alliance. Paula Gray, of Midland Metro Alliance, who attended both days of Achilles Live, said; “The quality of information imparted to delegates during the conference talks, was broad ranging, pertinent and insightful. The professional knowledge levels held amongst the attendees within the room was exceptionally high and it is not often that we get this type of opportunity to network amongst such a broad range of industry professionals with such vast wide-ranging experience.”
