Role at Achilles
As the Regional Director for Northern Europe, Espen was brought on board to improve the relationships to the clients as well as driving growth in a large region encompassing the Nordics, Iceland, Baltics and DACHS markets.
With experience from and passion for changes and enhanced relationships with clients and employees, Espen is focusing on reenergizing the Northern Region in support of transforming Achilles into a world class organisation both as to customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
Espen takes pride in integrity and honest communication, and is committed to diversity, transparency and respect at all levels of an organisation, and works on the basis on understanding how he can help others improve and rise in their work endeavours.
Lessons from the past
Espen started his career working in the Trade Union of Bank Employees in Norway and was heavily involved in the impact computerization would have on banks, the future of bank branches and on employees and later joined a leading bank to learn more about how technology in banking developed. He experienced the banking crisis in the 80’ties for real, and started his own consulting company within the sphere of card based payments advising the major cards schemes VISA and Mastercard.
Recognizing a need for consolidation, he co-founded a company that set out to consolidate incumbent datacenters in Central and Eastern Europe and after being acquired by FirstData , he became Regional Manager Central and Eastern Europe. He later became Managing Director FirstData Greece during the Greek crisis and managed through client interaction, team motivation, transparency, and Business Contingency Plans to grow revenue through the crisis. He considers experiencing the Greek crisis first hand is the best university he has ever attended.
He later served as SVP General Financial Services EMEA and on several boards – including as Chairman of the Board within the heavily regulated payments industry, before he joined Achilles as Regional Manager Northern Europe.
He is a Certified Board Member by the Swedish Academy of Board Directors
Away from work
Espen is an animal lover and spend time exercising his 2 Rottweilers. He is also a passionate tennis player on hobby basis and a lover of Greece – including Greek wine and food, having spent 14 years living there. He is also passionate about printed newspapers in the weekends.
He is also a member of the Board of his local Housing Cooperative.
