Role at Achilles
As Chief Product Officer (CPO), Mark leads a team focussed on providing customers around the world with innovative and world class supply chain risk management solutions. He says that a key driving force behind Achilles product strategy is enabling and accelerating the urgent need for all businesses to become more sustainable and more responsible.
To support this he works with colleagues, customers and other organisations all over the world to deliver a product roadmap that has the right blend of enhancements, new capabilities and carefully applied innovations to help our customers succeed.
Lessons from the past
Mark’s career has centred on the intersection of technology and product and this remains his passion: leveraging the best existing and emerging technologies to create and deliver products that people and organisations truely value. Spending his first 18 years in the education technology sector, he helped design and deliver solutions ranging from classroom content services and local networks, through to country-wide virtual learning environments.
Over the 12 years he has been with Achilles, Mark has supported or led major platform and product consolidation projects and the launch of multiple new products. Success, he says, comes from two things, 1) ‘walking in your customers shoes’ – diligently understanding their needs, vision and any friction, and 2) building and maintaining experienced cross-functional teams who will make that vision a reality.
Away from work
Away from work, Mark enjoys spending time with his young family – walking, cycling, visiting the coast and doing a spot of gardening. Based near Oxford in the UK, he makes time to help a local Scout group where he is a charity Trustee. To stay fit, and for good mental health, Mark says he loves a long run, competing in the occasional swim-run event and to read a good thriller.
