The Achilles Public Sector EU Academy is designed to improve understanding of the principles and objectives of the EU procurement legislation from the fundamentals of the Treaty Principles and EU Directives to how they translate into legislation and how this can be applied in practice.

The Achilles Public Sector EU Academy is a series of 6 one day modules that have proven invaluable in unifying procurement processes and internal governance policies, clarifying knowledge and dispelling misconceptions and myths.

Delegates will gain full knowledge of the EU rules, appreciate the requirement for process and gain an insight into what risk may be created by not applying them.

Who should attend?

The training is designed to provide procurement practitioners with a level of knowledge that ensures full understanding of the complexities of EU procurement legislation. This training is appropriate for procurement practitioners who are at the beginning of their career or those more experienced who would like to refresh their knowledge.


The EU Academy modules incorporate 6 full days, with open courses taking 5 months to complete and in-house courses timetabled to suit an organisations own requirements. Each EU Academy will be delivered by one of our experienced trainers, all with a wealth of knowledge in EU procurement legislation and practitioner knowledge.
Our team consists of CIPS qualified practitioners and Master degree graduates in Procurement and Procurement Law.

Our courses are delivered as interactive class room based sessions with case studies, scenarios and examples of relevant case law. They are all supported by the Achilles procurement toolkit THEMiS, a web-based EU procurement encyclopaedia, providing guidance, case law, consolidated legislation and the function to ask specific EU related procurement questions which will be accessible for the duration of the academy.

Over the course of 6 months, we will cover:

  • Module 1 – Understanding the EU concept – 19 May 20
  • Module 2 – Understanding our markets and creating notices in OJEU – 3 June 20
  • Module 3 – Selection and award – 1 July 20
  • Module 4 – Framework agreements and dynamic purchasing systems – 5 Aug 20
  • Module 5 – Sustainability and remedies – 3 Sep 20
  • Module 6 – The business game – 7 Oct 20
