Constructing Excellence and BuildingConfidence announce partnership

Constructing Excellence has partnered with Achilles BuildingConfidence, the supplier accreditation scheme, to deliver a healthcheck assessment that promotes best practice and industry improvement in the built environment. Constructing Excellence members will benefit from an independent verification of compliance and improvement against the Construction Commitment's six principles. Constructing Excellence member companies will have the assessment initially provided as part of their existing membership, as the intention is to encourage all members to participate.

Originally launched as the "2012 Construction Commitments" back in 2007 to facilitate best practice on the Olympics construction, the six key areas of the Construction Commitments are those identified as vital to delivering projects on quality, time, safely and to budget. Procurement and Integration, Commitment to People, Client Leadership, Sustainability, Design Quality, and Health and Safety should underpin all construction projects. Constructing Excellence promotes the use of the Commitments as a framework for all construction projects.

Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence, Don Ward, said, "Our objective is to drive performance improvement in the construction industry. The on-site healthcheck assessment delivered by Achilles is an innovative solution that enables Constructing Excellence members to demonstrate leadership by going beyond self-declaration of the Commitments and undertaking independent verification of the six principles to the highest standard."

Jon de Souza, Director of the Construction Clients' Group, said, "Clients have a key responsibility to lead by example when it comes to best practice and the change we want to see in our supply chains. The Constructing Excellence healthcheck provides the ideal vehicle for clients to undergo the same assessment as we would like our supply chains to follow, taking a collaborative approach to demonstrating our real dedication to the Commitments."

Importantly, the healthcheck assessment has been fully aligned with Achilles BuildingConfidence accreditation standard, meaning that all companies achieving BuildingConfidence accreditation will also achieve assessment against the Commitments for no additional effort of cost, therefore bringing efficiencies to demonstrating leadership and excellence in the industry. BuildingConfidence, launched in 2007, provides probably the highest standard of accreditation in the industry today, covering safety, environment, quality, all legislative requirements including the recent Anti-Bribery Act. More than 1,200 companies are participating with 15 major construction firms now using to manage supply chain risk and development.

Philip Foster, Construction Director at Achilles, commented, "There are natural synergies between Constructing Excellence and Achilles in seeking to improve client and supply chain performance in the industry. This partnership demonstrates the value and recognition of those companies who aspire to be the best in what they do, and prove it through an independent assessment. Together we aim to help promote best practise for clients and their supply chains, making a tangible difference to our industry."
