Offshore Design Engineering (ODE) begins using First Point Assessment as a Purchaser

03 Aug 2010

Offshore Design Engineering (ODE) has recently joined a growing number of main contractors who have opted to use the First Point Assessment (FPAL) supplier management system to manage their supply chain.  ODE is an international oil & gas engineering contractor headquartered in London and with an engineering centre and operations support base in Great Yarmouth, an engineering office in Aberdeen and a regional office in Cairo, Egypt.

ODE’s SHEQ Manager Andrew Baker said, “We recognise the importance of our supply chain in enabling us to provide a first class service to our clients, many of whom are operators.  This recent move to adopt the FPAL supplier management system means that our existing and potential new suppliers now have a simple on-line portal where they can register their capabilities.  FPAL is used by the oil and gas industry to provide significant efficiencies by speeding up the procurement process for both purchaser and supplier.  We will be using FPAL to help us identify the very best suppliers with the best track records in terms of delivery and safety and environmental performance.  Our use of FPAL means that we can select suppliers in a transparent, logical and ethical fashion in full compliance with our internal corporate responsibility standards in the same way that our operator customers have done for many years.

FPAL’s Malcolm Wilson welcomed ODE’s decision and said, “With more than 2800 suppliers being registered on FPAL, there is a compelling case for forward thinking main contractors like ODE to take advantage of the efficiencies that FPAL offers in terms of them having access to independently assessed supplier capability information.  We look forward to working with ODE as they swell the total number of operators and main contractors using FPAL to more than 80.”
