Where and how do you maintain your supplier data?
Probably you already know several providers of supplier databases in which you can find thousands of suppliers of several products and services. But to be honest: How much do you know about those registered suppliers? Are you sure that the provided supplier data is correct and valid?
As a matter of fact there are also a lot of software providers. With their software you can maintain your supplier data yourself. But how much time and money do you have to spend on company specific adjustments, implementation and licenses. And when can your colleagues use this supplier management software? What about your colleagues located in different cities or countries?
What do you know about your suppliers?
Actually you verify very carefully every new supplier. But to be honest: Do you always get the supplier questionnaire back in time? In fact you start with the supplier verification once you received all necessary documentation. But even if you have all necessary documentation in front of you this does not mean that the supplier automatically complies with your requirements. May we ask you another question?
How much do you know about your existing suppliers? Are you sure that your existing suppliers still comply with your requirements? The reality: once a supplier is registered in a company’s system the supplier often falls into oblivion. This changes of course if the company identifies a problem with a particular supplier or if one of the suppliers is involved in an accident. And who is the first one that notices it? Unfortunately it is the customer or the press! The consequences are of course serious: loss of image among the stakeholders, losses in turnover etc.
