What do you really know about your suppliers?

Probably you verify your new suppliers very carefully. But do you always get the supplier questionnaire back in time? Surely you start with the supplier verification once all necessary documentation is on hand. But even if you have received all the information, this does not necessarily mean that the supplier fulfills your high requirements.

How much do you actually know about your present suppliers?

Are you sure that your present suppliers still fulfill your high requirements? The reality: once a supplier is registered in a company’s system, the supplier often falls into oblivion – until the company identifies a problem with a particular supplier or, if worst comes to worst, one of the suppliers is involved in an accident. And who is the first to notice? Unfortunately, in the majority of cases, it is the customer or the press! The consequences are serious: loss of image among the stakeholders, losses in turnover and high costs in order to correct the mistake.

Who is taking care of your supplier data?

Incorrect supplier and master data are often a consequence of too few resources, a multitude of different data sources and/or no clear responsibilities for the data administration. This already may be the case when one wants to keep the master data of numerous suppliers constantly up to date. A recently released survey came to the conclusion that in every second case, the master data was faulty in a range of up to 20 percent.

Where and how do you administrate your supplier data today?

Of course, there are also numerous software solutions that help you organize your supplier data. But how much time and money must one invest to customize such a software for your company’s specific requirements, to implement it as well as acquiring the necessary licenses? How long does it take until all users can make use of the software – particularly when your company has more than one location? Even after the implementation of the software, you still need appropriate resources to keep the supplier and master data on a certain level.
